PUNE: A 56-year-old woman pillion rider was killed and the motorcyclist escaped unhurt as a speeding car hit their bike in front of Dharmavat fuel station at Pisoli on Monday evening.
The police identified the deceased as Sunanda Vichare from Kalepadal.
Assistant inspector Pratap Doiphode from Kondhwa police on Tuesday said,“Vichare and her 27-year-old son Navnath had gone to their native place at Bhor.
The mother-son duo was on way to home and passed via Khadi Machine chowk and Undri road for reaching Kalepadal in Hadapsar.”
Doiphode said, “A car came from behind and tried to overtake the bike when the driver lost control over the vehicle and hit on right side of the mirror. The impact of the
accident was such that Vichare riding pillion lost her balance and fell on road and sustained serious injuries to head.”
“Navnath who escaped unhurt rushed his mother to a nearby private hospital in Pisoli, but she was proclaimed dead by the doctors on arrival,” he said.
The car driver fled without giving intimation to police.
“We have registered an FIR against the driver for causing the victim’s death due to negligence under section 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act,” he added.
